I attended &lt;a href="http://www.loksattaparty.com/"&gt;&lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1"&gt;Loksatta&lt;/span&gt; Party's&lt;/a&gt; discussion on local governance. It was Q&amp;A session presided by &lt;a href="http://www.jayaprakashnarayan.blogspot.com/"&gt;JP&lt;/a&gt; and Mr &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2"&gt;Ankaiah&lt;/span&gt;. While answering one of the questions JP pointed to a word&lt;br /&gt;'Practical Patriotism'. Patriotism doesn't necessarily mean &lt;span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3"&gt;sacrifice&lt;/span&gt; or dying for one's country but being aware of common problems of the society and constantly working towards simple &amp;amp; achievable targets.  Working towards one's own society with a clear list of objectives and actionable  agenda shouldn't be a problem, though we cant equal it with the sacrifice of 5000 US soldiers who died in Iraq war, still 'practical patriotism' is all what we need than that vague 'Patriotism'. Though Ted defeated Lieberman in primaries he lost to him in the main race to senate.
